Raising interest in the Public Schools

MixTape Creative

This week we started a new project within our English project to develop our already existing project. We got the permission to teach English in the public schools 3 hours a week for six weeks. Since many have heard about “the container” but they really don´t know what it is about and what we do over there, this is a great opportunity for us to inform about the project but foremost to raise an interest of the English language!

This week we taught at the primary school in Jiquillio, fifth and sixth grade (10-13 years). We only had 45 minutes and 24 students. But it all went very well. We worked on how to present yourself in English by doing small interview cards which we later will use to actually interview each other in order to start practicing conversations. Even if grammar, reading, spelling and all that are extremely important, conversation is even more important! To actually dare to speak the language you are learning. Therefore we will put in an extra effort into the conversation part.

The following afternoon we had 6 new students from Jiquillio primary school! And they showed up all days of the week and they are eager to learn more English! We sure do hope that this extra project will make more people interested and willing to learn English.

Unfortunately we haven´t been taking any photos this week, but we will try to snap some next week! /Sandra
